A Call to Prayer

1 First of all, then, I urge that ^arequests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, 2 ^bfor kings and all who are in ^{▼▼Or a high position}authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and ^{▼▼Or seriousness}dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of ^eGod our Savior, 4 ^fwho wants all people to be ^gsaved and to ^hcome to the ^{▼▼Or recognition}knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is ^jone God, and ^kone mediator also between God and mankind, the ^lman Christ Jesus, 6 who ^mgave Himself as a ransom for all, the ⁿtestimony ^{▼▼Or to be given}given at ^{▼▼Lit its own times
,} ^qthe proper time. 7 ^rFor this I was appointed as a ^{▼▼Or herald}preacher and ^tan apostle ( ^uI am telling the truth, I am not lying), as a teacher of ^vthe Gentiles in faith and truth.

Instructions for Believers

8 Therefore ^wI want the men ^xin every place to pray, ^ylifting up ^zholy hands, without anger and dispute. 9 Likewise, I want ^aawomen to adorn themselves with proper clothing, ^{▼▼Lit with modesty}modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 ^acA woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 ^adBut I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 ^aeFor it was Adam who was first ^{▼▼Or formed}created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but ^agthe woman was ^{▼▼Or thoroughly deceived}deceived and ^{▼▼Lit has become}became a wrongdoer. 15 But ^{▼▼Lit she}women will be ^{▼▼Or saved}preserved through ^{▼▼Or the childbirth; or the bearing of children}childbirth --if they continue in ^amfaith, love, and sanctity, with moderation.
